The Precious Blood Ministry of Reconciliation recently partnered with Help-Portrait, an organization of professional photographers, to bring a smile to the faces of families in the Back of the Yards neighborhood on Chicago's south side.
Setting up in a nearby high school gym on December 3, Help-Portrait photographers took photos of families, couples and individuals. For many, it was their first professional portrait in years — or ever. PBMR staff members coordinated the event, along with the help of volunteers. They served a meal to all who participated in the day.
"People were amazed at how good they looked in their pictures," said Brother Juan Acuna, C.PP.S., who volunteered during the event. "For many, it was also an opportunity to share their personal stories. In a neighborhood where violence and hopelessness seem to prevail, this event was a glimpse of happiness and beauty in the lives of those who participated."
